What is Fybromyalgia?
Fybromyalgia Syndrome or FMS, is a widespread musculoskeletal pain disorder. The word Fybromyalgia means pain in the fibrous tissues in the body. Some of the symptoms associated with Fybromyalgia are:
Pain: People with fybromyalgia suffer wide spread chronic pain which can be at it’s worst first thing in the morning. It can affect the shoulders, neck, lower back and the muscles close to the joints. The term “I hurt all over” means just that.
Fatigue: Even after rest and good sleep Fybromyalgia sufferers may feel fatigued, to sufferers it may be mild, to others it may be incapacitating. It has been described as “feeling as though lead weights were attached to arms and legs”.
Sleep disorder: Many fybromyalgia sufferers can initially fall asleep with no problem, but quite often they become wide awake and find it difficult to get back to sleep. Sleepless nights may be a common occurence.
Headaches: Recurrent tension headaches or migraine can also be a common problem for fybromyalgia sufferers.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome: It has been found that these symptoms are found in a good majority of fybromyalgia sufferers.
Sensitivity to: Bright lights, odours,medication and noise are some of the symptoms for those who suffer from Fybromyalgia.
Face and head pain: Usually in the jaw area and the facial skin can become tender and sore in many Fybromyalgia sufferers.
The cause of Fybromyalgia is virtually unknown, but it is thought that it is triggered by events such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. a virul or bacterial infection or a trauma such as a motor accident. Some factors can aggravate the condition; cold or drafty environment, hormonal fluctuations, over exertion, stress or anxiety, these can all cause a flare up of Fybromyalgia.
